This highly informative guide is written for tourists, outdoors enthusiasts, divers, conservationists, students and scientists – anyone with an interest in New Zealand's rich marine ecology.
There are currently over 30 marine reserves, managed by the Department of Conservation, dotted around the coastlines of mainland New Zealand and its island groups. With their strict no-fish policy these protected areas have become a haven for wildlife and provide unique conditions in which to study or simply enjoy the plants and animals.
The book contains an introduction to marine protected areas before covering each reserve chapter by chapter, with maps, access details, activities and facilities for visitors, as well as a mine of information on the wildlife that can be encountered at each site.
The appendices include a glossary, list of species, further reading and index.
Accompanying the text are 32 pages of colour photographs.

The 500-word story is a challenge to write and a joy to read. While it can be read in a minute, it is still hugely satisfying, with lively content and concise construction. Asked to write on the theme of 'home', New Zealand writers have risen to the occasion with astounding variety and originality, offering humour, drama, romance and tragedy. Well-known, established authors as well as many newcomers, young and not so young, put their fingers to the keyboard and produced a fascinating collection of 500-word stories. This volume contains the hundred best entries. About the editors: Stephen Stratford is an award-winning journalist turned fulltime writer whose 12 previous books include THE JAFA JOKE BOOK, and THE NEW ZEALAND SPORTS JOKE BOOK. He has been a judge for many journalism and literary awards - three times for the Montana Book Awards - and was editor of the books magazine Quote Unquote.
First published October 2005.

Light fantastic: Dance floor courtship in New Zealand is a beautiful and evocative social history of public dance. From the first settlers' socials and Governor's balls to the formality of debutantes and the ritual of 'coming out', through sock hops and disco to dance raves, the story of public dances is arranged thematically and chronologically, the culmination of two years' research. Highly visual, with photos and printed ephemera running throughout, it is based on the successful 2005 First Dance exhibition held at the National Library Gallery in Wellington, curated by the author. Designed to make the most of the vast array of illustrative material the book is incredibly beautiful, with enhanced production values and visual appeal.
Like Thrift to Fantasy, text is organised into themes including invitations, preparation and dance lessons, dancehalls and decorations, codes of conduct (debutantes, proximity), wallflowers and
